Episode 048 : PBW Barlanark and Lucha DS Special Episode

SmashCast brings you a road report from Premier British Wrestling in Barlanark, Glasgow!

First of all – we apologise for the overall quality of the majority of this show. Technical problems plagued us from the outset but somehow, we have managed to stitch it together into what we think is a great little show.

We were in Barlanark Community Centre to watch PBW entertain a sold out crowd, and as well as having some live reports from during the show, we spoke to Scotland’s favourite luchador, Lucha DS about wrestling, life, podcasting and much more.

Get some on the spot takes from our own Tony and Ant (who was promoting the show) and some live reactions from the fans as the matches are happening.

We managed to update the scores on our WrestleMania and NXT predictions at the end of the show (honestly, we had about two hours of content for this show recorded, but dreaded technical gremlins put paid to the bulk of it) and we have a shocking conclusion to this season’s league table.

Check our twitter feed @WeAreSmashcast for an exciting competition soon – you could win a PBW DVD and poster – and let us know what you thought of the show, if we should try something like this again in the future!

Episode 047: ADAM COLE, maybe

The Smashcast crew return with a NXT: Takeover prediction special! We just about got it released before the show, so all picks count, It’s THE LAW. George has to run off to do some Pyjama Rolling (copyright Anthony) so he leaves mid show… hopefully he listens in to see what we said about him!

Elsewhere, we talk about some old WrestleMania cards, Clash of Champions VI and the careers of Jody Fleisch, Chris Kanyon, Lance Storm, Brutus The F’n Barber Beefcake and DDP. In football chat, Jermaine Pennant, VAR, loan players, Huddersfield and we have a semi serious debate about the football culture in Scotland, off the back of an explosive Glasgow Derby last weekend.

This should be uploaded just in time for those NXT picks to be relevant. If not, just trust us that we recorded them waaaaay before the show, honest.

Episode 046: Chief Pyjama Roller

Two weeks in a row for your big SmashCast! The gang are back to discuss Doug’s lack of understanding of how a calendar works, George’s colour co-ordinated pyjamas and other such trivial points of life.

Listen in as we delve into the week’s wrestling and football news, look back at WrestleMania IV, Clash Of Champions 1, Last ever Nitro, Derby County’s super quick relegation and then we do a quick prediction filled WrestleMania preview.

Also, Scotland’s national football team may be a laughing stock, which leads us to our topic: Worst result by your international team. Which will be the biggest farce inflicted upon our country? (Spoiler: It’s a Scottish result)

Episode 44: Bringing The Thunder Back Again

It’s a celebration, as the gang are here for this milestone edition – this week’s episode marks the one year anniversary of The SmashCast. We’ve been doing this for a whole year now and by now, you might think we would be good at it, but never mind.

On a serious note, all of the crew (even George, probably) would like to thank each and every one of you that listened to any of our episodes. This is a project that we all enjoy – the fact that anyone else does is a bonus… so thank you!

This week, as we delve into the latest happenings in the world of football, Doug and George rub salt into the wounds of Ant and Tony, left by the harsh and sudden defection of B*****n R******s to Leicester City; Ant has the best night of his life and we all poke fun at Chelsea – huzzah!

In wrestling? Prichard returns, Anderson departs, Kofimania is running wild, it’s Hall Of Fame season and we honour The Nature Boy RIc Flair (hopefully in a better way than Batista did) in our topic of the week – what do we pick as our fave Ric Flair moments? Listen in to find out – let us know yours on Twitter at @WeAreSmashCast!

Episode 43: Malcolm In The Middle

SmashCast returns with a rare treat, we have a special guest – that’s right, the masked man of mystery Malcolm joins us to round off this week’s panel.

We talk about WCW’s Clash Of The Champions X, has there ever been golf on the moon and delve into all the latest football and wrestling news. Well, delve is a bit of a strong word. We take a look at it, poke it with a stick and leave it well alone, to be honest.

Our topic of the week is about who was the best ever wrestler never to be a recognized World Champion? Guest Malcolm weighs in with some hot takes in this one, and George’s hosting skills are called into question during our regular dose of “DOUG’S GAME DOUG’S GAME YEAH YEAH YEAH“.

A huge thank you to our guest Malcolm for spending some time with us, even if he did seem to break Ant at one point in the show. Thanks, masked man!

Episode 38: 2018 Year End Awards Spectacular!

Ho Ho Ho! It’s a special end of year spectacular show! As we approach the festive season, the gang huddle round an open fire – not to roast some chestnuts, but to hand out some end of year awards to all and sundry in the wrestling world.

We dive straight into the awards from the beginning of the show and may even manage to find some festive cheer for George as we search for 2018’s best match, best feud, best card and much, much more.

Also, as we note at the end of the show, we’re taking a short break until after the New Year – so make sure you stock up on mince pies and Christmas spirits until 2019 when we return!

Episode 35: Robbie Keane and Jesus up front

SmashCast is here and it’s time to celebrate Doug’s birthday… by not having him on this week’s show. Yes, your favourite grumpy old man is one year older, so we gave him the night off and recorded this show as a three man booth.

Given that we may have an episode being aired on the radio at some point, we went into this with the intention not to swear too much to make editing easier… that lasted less than a minute! We may be foul mouthed, but we have hearts of gold folks, honestly.

This week’s show sees us discover who won the last “season” of our debate game, as well as looking into the past at Jushin Thunder Liger, Starrcade 1985 and Davey Boy Smith. We come right back up to date with a recap of the NXT UK situation as it stands amongst NXT and Survivor Series recaps.

We also look at some football news – Robbie Keane hangs up the boots, Scotland win – TWICE – and Spurs stadium? Well, you get the idea. Tune in for this small but perfectly formed show and hit us up with your questions and comments on Twitter @WeAreSmashcast

Episode 33: A Solid Number Two

Welcome back to a special spooky (not really) Halloween edition of Smashcast.

We’re back to our usual format of looking at what happened this week in the history of pro wrestling and football, as well as taking a look at what’s been in the news in the past few days. That means we look at Spurs latest stadium headache, Diego Maradona’s excellent goals against England and wonder where Marco van Basten went wrong in his life…

Also, with rumours of Jericho’s new promotion doing the rounds, we examine where they should be aiming for if it’s true, and discuss the way the business is these days – with WWE an obvious number 1, but who is number 2? We also cover WWE Evolution, WWE Crown Jewel, the imminent return of Hulk Hogan to the WWE fold in Saudi Arabia and even talk about the business model of the WWE vs. the independent circuit.

This week’s debate is a topical one – what gets the big Smashcast nod as the finest WCW Halloween Havoc moment? Tune in to find out!

As mentioned on the show. text SMTR76 £3 to 70070 to donate to friend of the show Stuart’s London Marathon sponsorship and the RNIB. If you wish to change the amount you can do £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 – let’s see if we can send some Smashcast money his way!
